39 years ago today

Yes, yes, Darrin's 40, but the earliest picture I could find is his 1 year old picture:

I can't believe I am married to a 40 year old man! He's great, though, I'll keep him.

You don't want to know about our past week. Suffice it to say there was much digestive distress of all kinds and high fevers involved for everyone.

Tiring weekend

Well, Thursday night, Callie & I went & got haircuts. Here's the before:

After:

Friday night Darrin & I went out to dinnner and Callie went to a sleepover at a friend's house. She stayed up until 2 am, which made her cranky for....

Saturday, which was Brynn's birthday party for the little girls she knows from preschool. Here are some pictures:

Brynn's latest funny thing is speaking "Bubbleish" - which just involves talking under the water in the bath. She asked me to take a picture of it, so here ya go!

Today, it seems like everybody may be coming down with something. All afternoon headaches, fevers, and crankyness have been running rampant through just about all of us. It's not been a fun afternoon, and the rain and generally gloomy weather hasn't helped. I'm off to bed now.

Not much new

Because it has only been a few days since my last post. Mainly I've been catching up on sleep, laundry, housecleaning, etc. Really the only new thing to share with you today is
this article which is about Darrin's company.
Have a good week, everybody!

What a week!

(and every bit of it is true, too!)
So Wednesday of last week was a pretty normal day. That evening we drove up and met Sarah & her kids at their hotel, where we swam for a couple hours. Brought Katie home with us for a slumber party. They girls all slept downstairs and had a blast.
The next day we met Sarah & the boys at the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving Point, where they played around for a couple hours and then had lunch:

Then headed over to the petting zoo, where Brynn got in trouble:

And every kid got a pony ride and we went on a hayride:

Then everybody went home tired and exhausted. I even had a sunburn!
The next morning we got up and headed to the zoo with Darrin's parents and brothers. In spite of not having seen each other in over a year, Brynn and her cousin Sydnee (Dave's daughter, just 6 weeks older than Brynn) got along well:

Kyra also won the heart of Dave's youngest, Ashlyn:

We found out Dennis really does measure up (to an ape):

I got more sunburn, and the girls played together well:

Friday night we colored Easter eggs:

Saturday we went up to the Donaldson grandparent's house for an Easter dinner there. We let the kids hunt for eggs, colored more eggs, talked a lot, looked at old pictures, and ate some more. Brought the camera with us, but somehow got home without taking pictures.
Sunday we went to church in our Easter Dresses:

(Well, Darrin wore a suit, not an Easter dress. I'm sure you're all glad to hear that!)
That afternoon we went to the Lythgoe grandparents' house for another Easter dinner. More good food and lots of talking. Dave & Jenny are here from VA, and Charlie brought his girlfriend and her 2 daughters, so it was a bigger group than we've had lately. Once again, the camera made it there, but no pictures got taken!
As that was winding down, I got a call from my client that she was in early labor but not ready for me yet. I went to bed early, but woke up Monday morning at the usual time and hadn't heard anything, which left me wondering. They called at 7:30 am and asked me to come.

Longest. Birth. Ever.

I got home last night (That's TUESDAY, about 36 hours later!) at around 10 pm. Good thing I love what I do! I really enjoyed this couple, the nurse was fabulous, and the midwife is a friend of mine and one of the best around. It was very slow, but everything went well.
I would have loved to have a relaxing day today resting and recovering, but no such luck. I started out the day with a faculty meeting for the college, taking Brynn to preschool, birthday shopping for Brynn, helping in Callie's class at school, and doing a couple loads of laundry. And that was all before lunch. The afternoon was only slightly better. Still tons of stuff to do, but at least all of it was at home!
I'm going to bed now.

BIG NEWS!

OK, so we have two new and exciting things going on in the Lythgoe household, I couldn't even bring myself to post last weekend, because I couldn't think of anything to post that wouldn't spill the beans.
First, I've taken a new job on the faculty of the Midwives' College of Utah. I'll be teaching two classes, History of Midwifery (a required course for all students) and Childbirth Education (an elective with a much lower enrollment.) MCU is a fairly large, nationally accredited school that trains midwives worldwide.
Our second piece of news is even bigger. Darrin & I will be quite busy this summer, building a new home! Since Darrin's new job is in Lindon (Utah County) we have decided to move closer. We found a lot in Cedar Hills last week and will sign the contract on it tomorrow. (Originally I was going to wait until after we signed, but hey, I'm making the other announcement, so I may as well, right?) We've met with an architect and will be doing a custom home. Right now the plan is for about 5000 sq ft, 5 bedroom, 4.5 bath with an attached classroom/office (with separate entry and its own bathroom) for my teaching and for meeting with clients. We'll have a big playroom downstairs and laundry rooms on both floors (no more lugging it all up & down the stairs!) One room will be a library with lots of built-in bookshelves and a window seat with lots of pillows for a cozy reading spot. We'll also have a small sitting area in the master bedroom with a fireplace. And if we can fit it in the budget, I'll be getting the jetted tub I've always wanted! The lot is more than double the size of our current one, so we should be able to put in a shed, bigger garden, some fruit trees, and still have more room for something fun. We haven't decided if we'll do a trampoline, a big swingset/clubhouse thing, or maybe even a pool! The yard is so big Darrin's hoping to buy a riding lawnmower but we'll see how much money we have left after construction. We hope to have the place finished by August so we can get the girls started in their new schools at the beginning of the year.
We're very exited about the new house, but I'm kind of dreading getting this one ready and going through the whole "for sale" process. Just thinking about trying to get everything we own packed up, and keeping the house in showable condition for however long it takes is making me anxious. It was hard enough last time, and I only had two kids (Callie was not even crawling yet) - now I have three kids, and they're all messy! (Not that I am the neatest person, either....)
So we will be keeping you posted and I'll try and get pictures up as construction progresses over the summer. Cross your fingers that we can get things started by the end of the month!
Not much else is new around here, and frankly everyting else pales in comparison. I've got a mom due to have her baby any day now, Kyra & Callie both went to the eye doctor and desperately needed new lenses, I had a nice birthday adn Darrin & I went out for Indian food.
Oh, and Happy April Fools, everybody. Had you going with the house thing, didn't I? (The new job is true, though)
