Happy Thanksgiving!

Yesterday was Callie's favorite part of Thanksgiving: Helping Grandma cook!
She got to help make rolls

While Brynn helped tear up the bread for stuffing:

They both got to help make cinnamon rolls:

And Kyra got there in time to help with frosting the cinnamon rolls:

It was a fun afternoon. But today is MY favorite part: The eating, the family gathering around, and the eating!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

WOW!

So the theme for this year's Reflections contest is "WOW!" Callie entered twice, once for photography and once for literature. Tuesday was the awards assembly, and this is the result:

YAY Callie, first the science fair, and now the arts contest! February should be a busy month with the district level contest for both. I'll keep you posted.

Thoroughly Modern!

Last night was opening night for Kyra's play! She did a great job. Most of her scenes are in the first half, and her big scene (with all her lines) is right near the start. So don't be late! Here she is as Rita in her biggest scene: (You can click on any of the pictures to enlarge them)

She's also a dancer in the speakeasy scene, with a costume change, so don't forget to watch for her in that scene, too! (That's her on the end getting her mug shot taken. Never thought I'd be proud to have a mug shot of my daughter on my blog....)

During the bows at the end of the play:

You can also watch for her helping with set changes throughout the play.

Callie's a Science Geek!

(It's OK to call her that. She actually REQUESTED a T-shirt that said that for Chistmas last year. And I actually found one! She wears it all the time.)

Callie was one of 6 winners for the 5th grade and will take her project to the district wide science fair in February!
Congratulations, Callie! You're my favorite science geek!

Fall Leaves!

Today Darrin raked the leaves under ONE tree in our yard and put a huge pile in the garden. Which of course, was a magnet for the kids. Which, of course, was a magnet for mom and her camera:

I've been LOVING the warmer fall weather the last week or so. Today Darrin & I wandered all over BYU in short sleeves with no coats and it was very pleasant!

It's science project time!

(which, being translated, means "more work for mom time")
Callie's project involved freezing various liquids and measuring how much they changed in volume and weight. Callie was shocked that the volumes changed so much but not the weights!

It's due Wednesday and we still have to put together the display board, practice for the interview and fill out the FOUR PAGE APPLICATION.

Brynn's latest obsession

A cardboard box on our deck:

It has all kinds of amenities (all made of colored and cut paper with lots of scotch tape) like a mailbox, a dresser, pictures on the walls, etc. She's been spending HOURS out there. The worst part? When she has to come in!

(I'm dreading the inevitable day the snows destroy it!)

She suffers for her art

Kyra's director made her get her eyebrows waxed for the play. Before:

After:

OUCH! I've never been brave enough to do that!

What is it?

A Baseball Bat! Har, har, very punny, Darrin!

What nerdy kids do with Halloween candy

Overheard this morning:
Yesterday I sorted my candy by what kind it is. Today I am going to put it in ABC order! I'm really excited about that!
