The conference!
The conference ran Thursday night through noon on Sunday. I got to hear some great speakers, among them Penny Simkin:
And Robbie Davis-Floyd:
it was just amazing to be with so many doulas! I met doulas from all over the US and Canada, Australia, the Grand Cayman Islands, and London, England.
One thing did kind of drive me nuts. Usually when I'm out at a restaurant and I hear people talking birth my ears perk up and I want to eavesdrop. Imagine when there are HUNDREDS of birth conversations going on in the same room!
Each night I walked around the city until I found a restaurant I wanted to try. Once I went alone, but generally I went with groups of other doulas I met. I ate Thai food, greek food, and french food. On one of those walks exploring the neighborhood, I saw this:
One night after the sun went down, I experimented with long shutter speeds out my window and in the hotel plaza and got some fun pictures:
Sunday right after the conference I headed to the airport and flew to Seattle. After spending an hour going all over the airport trying to resolve a mixup. (They'd changed my second flight and didn't tell me, so the itinerary I had was for a nonexistant flight). Finally got on a plane to SLC and arrived home about 9:30 pm.

It sounds, Andrea, like your big to-doula was a lot of fun. I'm glad you are able to go forth on these wonderful adventures on your own, I am really surprised to see how beautiful Vancouver seems to be.
